Selection of the Project Team

Infrastructure

It is important when planning to enter the "On Ramp" to the information educational highway, that great care is taken at this point.

Establishing the key players as soon as possible will facilitate the development of the project team which will be critical in achieving the desired goal. Try to limit the project team to the key players in the facility. There are many decisions that will have to be made and decisions by a large committee will confuse and slow down the project. Assign key members of the project team to research various questions and concerns that their colleagues may have and submit that report to the project leader. The collection of this data will aid in the overall design criteria and hopefully address the instructional and operational issues at hand.

Finding qualified professionals to be part of the facilities project team to develop designs, engineer, and advise, whether in the multimedia, audio/video field, broadcast, or computer network field, may be difficult. Since there may be various different technical aspects of the project (i.e. Media retrieval, data display, distance learning, broadcast facilities, satellite uplinks and earth stations, etc.) it would be beneficial to find a professional design group that has as many of these areas of expertise as possible. This will help to assure a cohesive and cost effective design. Whatever the facility's choice is, it is important that when selecting these professionals they understand your goals, even if conceptual, and they have the expertise in helping you obtain them. Based on their expertise and experience these professionals can help establish the facility's definition and scope of work. This blue print will outline the agreed course that the project should take.

Without this blue print precious funding can be unnecessarily wasted.
